Outdoor Recreation Youth Day 2023

More than 200 youth came out Saturday, August 19th, for Youth Day!

There were 13 booths set up with a variety of activities:

  1. Metal Detecting with SW MI Seek & Search Club

  2. Fly Fishing with Alder Creek Angling

  3. Boy Scouts

  4. Archery with National Deer Association

  5. Atlatl with Gun Lake Tribe

  6. Soil Painting with Barry Conservation District

  7. Birding with Bird Club

  8. Wildlife Education with Department of Natural Resources

  9. Hiking with North Country Trail Association

  10. Bike Giveaway with Barry County Blue Zones

  11. B-Bus & Y on the Fly with YMCA

  12. Fishing with Sportsmen’s Outreach

  13. Macroinvertebrate Sampling with Pierce Cedar Creek Institute & Battle Creek Outdoor Education Center

Soil Painting with the BCD

We used soil found on site, water, and mod podge to create the beautiful works of art pictured below.
You can even try this at home! Print or draw your own picture and use soil to paint it.
Paint recipe: 2 parts finely crushed soil, 1 part water, 1 part mod podge
